About each permit

Fire Operational Permit — Places of Assembly

$80 for an occupant load up to 300, $165 for 301 to 1,000, and $390 above 1,000. This is the permit a restaurant with a dining room, a bar, a gym or an event space needs — and it sits on top of the area-banded fire inspection fee rather than replacing it. A temporary membrane structure, tent or canopy is $280 under Sec. 105.5.49, which is the highest tent fee in this dataset by a distance.

Fire Operational Permit — Hazardous Materials

$390 for hazardous materials and the same $390 for an HMM facility — jointly the most expensive operational permits Fort Worth issues, alongside a place of assembly above 1,000 occupants. Lumber yards and woodworking plants are $305. Flammable and combustible liquids are $110, cutting and welding $110, industrial ovens $110, and repair garages and motor fuel-dispensing facilities $110.

Fire Operational Permit — Pyrotechnic Special Effects

$195, and a further $195 — double in total — if the application is made within 15 days of the event. Trench burning is also $195. A special operational permit is $140, with an hourly rate of $120 where an inspector is required on site beyond the first hour.

Fire Operational Permit — High-Piled Storage

$165. The same $165 covers compressed gases, cryogenic fluids, LP-gas, amusement buildings, aviation facilities, explosives, magnesium, pyroxylin plastics, tire rebuilding plants, waste handling, and liquid or gas-fuelled vehicles inside assembly buildings. At the cheaper end, $80 covers hot work operations, spraying and dipping, combustible dust-producing operations, combustible fibres, energy storage systems, open flames and candles, organic coatings, cellulose nitrate film and miscellaneous combustible storage. Storage of scrap tyres is $60.

Fire Inspection

Banded on the floor area of the building or business: $55 under 5,000 sq ft, $60 for 5,001-10,000, $70 for 10,001-25,000, $95 for 25,001-50,000, $145 for 50,001-75,000 and $195 for 75,001-100,000. Above 100,000 sq ft it is $195 plus $30 for each additional 50,000 sq ft or part of one. Buildings with four or more occupied floors above street level add $10 per floor under Sec. H104.2.1. Most Texas cities inspect without a standing fee — Fort Worth charges for it, so a mid-sized retail unit carries this as a recurring cost.
