What does the requirement checker draw on?

The same published records as the rest of the site: 6,354 requirements from 477 jurisdictions in 51 states, each tied to the agency page, fee schedule or code section it was read from — 6,445 sources in all. It answers for 4,119 business-type and place combinations across 426 cities and counties in 51 states. A combination is offered only once we hold at least three published requirements for it, so a result is never a near-empty list.

What does a result show?

Every published requirement for that business in that place — local permits and the state registrations that apply there — with the issuing agency, the fee as the agency publishes it, the renewal term and the date the record was last checked against its source. Where every fee is a single figure, it totals them; where a fee is a band or a formula, it says so rather than guessing a number.

Search opens the full page for that business type and place: what the permits cost in total, which offices issue them, how the place compares with others in the state, and the source behind every figure.

What does it not do?

It does not file anything, and it is not legal advice. It shows what the issuing agencies publish; the agency's own decision on your application is the final word. If a place or business type is missing, we do not yet hold enough verified records for it — see the methodology for how records are added.
