About each permit

Fire Prevention Bureau Plan Review and Inspection Fees

The Fire Prevention Bureau's Permits and Fees page states that on July 6, 2004 the County Commission adopted Ordinance 2004-021 and Resolution 2004-071, which created the Fire Prevention Bureau and "the schedule of fees and fines related to fire and life safety (Chapter 208-Code of Ordinances)", effective July 12, 2004. The amounts above are as published in that schedule, which the page links as the county's resolutions and fee schedules, together with Resolution 2009-029 (effective March 17, 2009) and Resolution 2018-014 (effective January 16, 2018), which changed how large plan review fees are paid. The schedule notes that fire safety service fees include plan review, permit and initial inspection. A restaurant, shop, salon, gym, clinic, child care center or repair garage building out or changing the use of commercial space pays the plan review fee alongside the Building Division's permit fees. The Bureau's page asks applicants to file the downloadable applications by email.

Fire Special Event Permit

Resolution 2009-029, adopted by the Board of County Commissioners on March 17, 2009 and linked from the Fire Prevention Bureau's Permits and Fees page, sets the special event permit categories and fees shown above. Per the resolution, a Category 1 event organizer submits a site drawing roughly to scale showing all exhibit sites (tents up to 12 by 12 feet), and approval of the drawing serves as the inspection. A Category 2 permit for recurring one-day events with electrical service or cooking uses the existing permitting process and stays in effect for 120 days as long as the organizer submits written notice every 30 days affirming no site changes and giving the upcoming dates. A food truck or a restaurant or coffee shop cooking at a vendor event falls under Category 2 or Category 3. The resolution leaves the rest of the Resolution 2004-071 schedule unchanged. The event permit is separate from any state food service license.
