Home Occupation Permit (Unincorporated Indian River County)

A business run from a home in the unincorporated area goes through two steps on the county's current documents. First, the County Planning Home Occupation Qualification Form (rev. 6/21/21), which the Tax Collector hosts, is submitted to the Tax Collector with the Local Business Tax application; by signing it, the applicant agrees to file the Home Occupation Permit application and the one-time $65.00 fee, made payable to Indian River County, with Code Enforcement within 7 days. Second, Code Enforcement reviews the permit application; the county's Code Enforcement flowchart describes the application as "submitted to Code Enforcement Planning Assistant with a one time $65.00 application fee" and shows a review of about 10 to 12 days. The $65.00 amount appears on the application form, the flowchart and the qualification form. The Tax Collector's Overview states that Home Occupation Permit applications cannot be processed online and must be taken or mailed with payment to Code Enforcement, 1801 27th Street, Building A, Vero Beach (772-226-1249). The permit applies only to a business operated from a residence.
