About each permit

Public Pool Annual Operating Permit (DOH-Indian River)

This is a state permit issued by the Florida Department of Health's office in Indian River County, a state agency field office. The DOH-Indian River Pools and Bathing Places page states that "Owners must apply for and receive a Florida Department of Health annual operating permit before the pool is opened for operation", and that DOH-Indian River permits and inspects approximately 350 public swimming pools, spas, wading pools, interactive water features or special water park attractions at least twice a year. The page also describes a process, in place since October 1, 2014, for submitting plans for construction or modification of a public pool to DOH-Indian River and the local building department. A fitness studio with a pool or spa open to members needs this permit; a studio without a pool or spa has no pool permit. DOH-Indian River Environmental Health: 772-794-7440.
