About each permit
Fire Contractor Registration
$110 a year for any contractor installing, repairing or inspecting fire protection systems, or any other system or operation regulated by the International Fire Code. The wording is broader than it first appears — "any system or operation regulated by the IFC" reaches well beyond sprinklers and alarms. Separate from Building Inspections' $100 general contractor registration.
Fire Plan Check
Charged on building area rather than project value, which is unusual and makes it predictable early: a 5,000 square foot restaurant pays $195, and the $66 minimum only bites below about 1,700 square feet. Where a fire protection contractor is the only contractor on site the fee is halved, subject to a $110 minimum. Expedited review is $137.50. New construction re-inspections escalate at $82.50, $110, $110 and then $137.50 each, and must be paid before a building inspection final can be scheduled. After-hours and same-day inspections are $82.50 an hour with a $165 minimum.
Flammable Liquid and LP Gas Storage Tank Permit
$275 per tank, whether for a flammable and combustible liquid storage tank and its piping or for a new LP gas storage tank installation. Charged per tank rather than per site, so a filling station or a fleet yard with three tanks pays $825. Outdoor fireworks are $330 and theatrical pyrotechnics $110 an event or $550 a year — the annual option pays for itself at five events.
