What does a food truck need in Clark County that other businesses do not?
2 of the 5 permits particular to a food truck here apply to no other business type we cover in Clark County: Mobile Food Vendor Business License (food trucks, carts, ice-cream trucks, hot-dog stands) — regulated license and Southern Nevada Health District Mobile Food Establishment Permit (food trucks, carts).
Mobile Food Vendor Business License (food trucks, carts, ice-cream trucks, hot-dog stands) — regulated license
A food truck, cart, hot-dog stand or ice-cream truck selling in the unincorporated area needs a regulated Mobile Food Vendor license under Code Chapter 6.130: a regulated-license packet, a $2,000 cash or surety bond (§6.130.050 via §6.56.070), public-liability insurance of $100,000 per person / $300,000 per accident and $25,000 property damage (§6.130.020(5)), a Southern Nevada Health District mobile food permit (a separate record), and a work card for the vendor and any food-handling employees. The fee itself is priced by gross revenue: §6.130.060 points to a section that no longer exists in the Code ('Section 6.12.835'), but the Department of Business License's own current Regulated License Guide lists 'Mobile Food Vendor 722330 $45.00 $25.00 (Gross Revenue) Semi-Annual' — $25.00 per half-year, the same floor as the first tier of the §6.12.995 table, plus the $45 application fee. Operating limits: no sales within 500 feet of a school during session, no operation between 10 p.m. and three hours after sunrise except at a construction site or a commercial place already open for business, and selling from the public right-of-way is otherwise unlawful (Code §6.04.130, §6.130.020(6)-(7)). Licenses are non-transferable and vehicles may not be leased to drivers (§6.130.030). Ask the Department of Business License at (702) 455-0174.
Southern Nevada Health District Mobile Food Establishment Permit (food trucks, carts)
A food truck or cart operating in the unincorporated area needs a Southern Nevada Health District mobile food permit — $335 per year for Mobile Food Service or a Self-Service Pre-Packaged Food Truck, or $191 for Mobile Ice Cream/Candy, effective July 1, 2026 — after a plan review of $658 for Mobile Food Service ($538 and $329 respectively for the other two categories). That $335 covers only the mobile unit itself: a truck also needs a commissary or base of operations, which SNHD separately prices by square footage from $312 to $1,286, so the true annual cost of operating a food truck is higher than the mobile permit alone. Food-handling employees also need a Health District food handler card, and Code §6.130.040 requires 'all mobile food vendors and employees of mobile food vendors who handle food and serve the public' to hold both a Chapter 6.10 work identification card and a health-district card certifying Chapter 9.16 compliance. The County's own mobile food vendor business license (a separate record) will not issue without this Health District permit.
