About each permit

Southern Nevada Health District Mobile Food Establishment Permit (food trucks, carts)

A food truck or cart operating in the unincorporated area needs a Southern Nevada Health District mobile food permit — $335 per year for Mobile Food Service or a Self-Service Pre-Packaged Food Truck, or $191 for Mobile Ice Cream/Candy, effective July 1, 2026 — after a plan review of $658 for Mobile Food Service ($538 and $329 respectively for the other two categories). That $335 covers only the mobile unit itself: a truck also needs a commissary or base of operations, which SNHD separately prices by square footage from $312 to $1,286, so the true annual cost of operating a food truck is higher than the mobile permit alone. Food-handling employees also need a Health District food handler card, and Code §6.130.040 requires 'all mobile food vendors and employees of mobile food vendors who handle food and serve the public' to hold both a Chapter 6.10 work identification card and a health-district card certifying Chapter 9.16 compliance. The County's own mobile food vendor business license (a separate record) will not issue without this Health District permit.

Southern Nevada Health District Child Care Facility Health Permit

The County's own Comprehensive List of License Categories and Fees states that there is no local licensing requirement for preschools and/or childcare/daycare facilities within Clark County (see the separate Clark County childcare record), but the Southern Nevada Health District permits every licensed child care facility for sanitation and safety: $163 a year for a family care home of one to six children, $329 for a group care home of seven to twelve, and $488 for a centre of more than twelve, plus a separate plan review priced by floor area — from $868 under 1,000 square feet up to $2,063 at 10,000 square feet or more — for new construction. Childcare kitchens are billed separately at $167. SNHD's own page, updated July 21, 2026, states that its 'child care program staff routinely inspects all licensed child care facilities in Clark County to assure compliance with elements of health, sanitation, and safety.' State childcare licensing from Nevada's Department of Health and Human Services is a separate requirement recorded at the state layer. Southern Nevada Health District Food Establishment Health Permit (restaurant, snack bar, coffee shop, take-out)

Restaurants, cafes, coffee bars and take-out counters in unincorporated Clark County — and in every other Clark County jurisdiction — are permitted by the Southern Nevada Health District, a regional agency, not the County or the State. The annual permit effective July 1, 2026 charges a fixed fee plus a per-unit charge; SNHD's own published schedule never defines what the billing unit is, so a business should confirm it directly with SNHD Environmental Health, (702) 759-1110, rather than assume it means seats or square footage — no source examined supports either guess. The base rows (Restaurant, Restaurant/Take Out, Snack Bar, Main Kitchen, Barbeque, Drinking Establishment, Beer Bar) are each $290 fixed plus $3.72 per unit; a restaurant with a drive-up window instead pays $382 (one window) or $472 (two windows) fixed, plus the same $3.72 rate. SNHD's fee schedule lists no 'coffee shop' row; a coffee shop is placed here under the Restaurant or Snack Bar row as the closest published category, not a category SNHD itself names. A food plan review, due before construction or remodel, costs $547 fixed plus $3.25 per unit. The County will not issue or renew the general business license until the Health District permit is held — Code §6.04.110(a) requires 'all required approvals ... from ... health' before a license issues or renews, a broader and more current authority than §9.20.030, which only points to an obsolete 1975/1977 Board of Health fee schedule and is not the source for these current figures. Apply through the SNHD Environmental Health portal; food operations phone (702) 759-1110.
