About each permit

Permit Amendment

Banded on the same turnover thresholds as the permit itself: $125 up to $49,999.99, $250 from $50,000 to $149,999.99 and $375 at $150,000 or more. Each mobile food unit, roadside vendor, school food establishment or central preparation facility is $125 flat. Worth pricing into a sale or a rebrand — on a large establishment the amendment costs almost half a new small permit.

Temporary Health Permit

$52, the figure that recurs across Texas because it tracks the state maximum for a temporary food establishment permit under Chapter 437. A concession stand is priced separately at $100. The City's Health Compliance page lists it as 'Temporary Permit (Single Event): Reduced to $52', so each event needs its own permit.

Farmers Market Permit

$100 a year, which is the ceiling the state sets. Under Health and Safety Code section 437.0065 a farmers market permit must run for at least a year, may not cost more than $100 to issue or renew, and must cover sales at every farmers market, farm stand and farm inside the permitting authority's jurisdiction — so one permit covers all McKinney markets, not one per stall.

Food Establishment Permit

Three bands on gross annual food sales: $258 up to $49,999.99, $515 from $50,000 to $149,999.99 and $773 at $150,000 or more. A delinquent fee of $100 applies on top if you are late, and a non-permitted food establishment inspection costs $150 — that is the fee for being caught operating without one, and it does not replace the permit. Reinspection is $200. The whole schedule is stated to be non-refundable, so an application withdrawn after payment is money gone.

Daycare Food Safety Inspection (on request)

The City's Health Compliance page states that daycare permits are no longer required, and that a daycare needing a food safety inspection to meet Texas Health and Human Services requirements may request one from the City's Health Compliance Department; it gives the food safety inspection request fee as $150. The same $150 appears as the non-permitted food establishment inspection fee in the Chapter 46 fee schedule passed on 2 December 2025. The inspection is a service on request, not a City permit to operate.

Public Swimming Pool / Spa Permit

Under section 94-3 of the Code of Ordinances it is unlawful to operate a public swimming pool, spa or public interactive water feature within the city limits without a valid pool permit, and permits remain in effect until 30 April each year regardless of when the application was made. A permit that lapses for more than one month is reinstated only on payment of the permit fee and a late fee. Chapter 94 defines a public swimming pool as any pool not built in conjunction with a single-family residence or two-residence townhouse, so a gym or studio with a pool or spa is covered; a certified pool operator is also required (section 94-4).
