About each permit
County Contractor Certificate of Competency
Hernando County issues Certificates of Competency to contractors through the Building Division's contractor licensing function, and the fees above are as published in Section 6 of the Building Division fee schedule adopted by Resolution No. 2026-037, whose Exhibit A took effect March 3, 2026. The issuance and renewal fee is an annual charge, and the schedule adds a late renewal penalty for a renewal paid late. The application, background check and exam sponsorship fees do not cover the separate charges of the investigative and testing firms. The county's Contractors page states that registration and new permits now go through the county's new Tyler permitting system, while the legacy contractor portal is used only for permits applied for or issued in the previous system.
