Child Care Facility Licensing — State DCF License Applies
The Florida Department of Children and Families' About Child Care Licensure page states that DCF licenses child care facilities in 63 out of 67 counties in Florida, and names the counties that license child care locally under Fla. Stat. s. 402.306 as Broward, Palm Beach, Pinellas and Sarasota. Because Volusia is not among the four counties that page names, there is no county child care license fee under s. 402.306; a child care centre anywhere in Volusia County, including inside its cities, applies to DCF for its State license. The ordinary county layers still reach a child care centre: a building permit for a build-out in the unincorporated area, and the zoning and building rules of the city where the centre is located.
