What this agency issues
| Permit | Issuing agency | Fee | Renews | Last checked |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Commercial Building Permit | City of Oklahoma City Development Services Department, Development Center | The Code of Ordinances (Chapter 60, Title 12) sets a $75.00 minimum permit fee for both new construction (§60-12-9(a)) and for alterations, removal or repair (§60-12-7(a)), effective July 1, 2024. Above that floor, the fee scales with construction valuation under a table in the same title, which is not reprinted in the City's published fee-update document; confirm the exact valuation-scaled amount for a project above the minimum with Development Services (405-297-2525) before budgeting. A related Demolition Permit is a flat $78.00 for the first storey (§60-12-8(a), effective 7/1/26). Optional pre-application services are priced separately: a Preliminary Building Permit Review is $150.00 (§60-12-6(a)) and a Pre-Construction Meeting with the general contractor is $500.00 (§60-12-6(c)), both effective 7/1/26. | one-time, per project | 2026-09-09 |
| Certificate of Occupancy & Temporary Certificate of Occupancy | City of Oklahoma City Development Services Department, Development Center | A standard Occupancy Certificate is $25.00 each (§60-12-10(c), unchanged since 7/1/24). A Temporary Certificate of Occupancy (TCO), used to occupy a commercial space early before a project's final inspections are complete, is $250.00 (§60-12-10(f), effective 7/1/26, phased up from $200.00 in 2024); TCOs are not issued for residential property. Where requested, an After Hours Inspection is $175.00 and a Consultation is $100.00 (both §60-12-10, effective 7/1/26). | Occupancy Certificate: one-time, no expiration. TCO: temporary, pending the project's final inspections (3-4 business days to process) | 2026-09-09 |
| Sign Permit | City of Oklahoma City Development Services Department, Development Center | A temporary sign placed in the public right-of-way (the sidewalk-sign product most small businesses use) is $25.00 per graphic design per calendar year plus $0.25 per actual sign, sold through the City's Business Center; monthly stickers identify the paid-through period. A permanent, installed sign (wall-, roof- or ground-mounted) is instead processed as a construction permit under Title 12 — its own checklist requires the same estimated-cost-and-square-footage information as a building permit — and is billed under that same valuation-based schedule described in the Commercial Building Permit record above, subject to at least the $75.00 minimum permit fee; the exact scaled amount for a specific permanent sign could not be retrieved verbatim from the Municipal Code during this research. | Temporary sign permit: annual, per graphic design. Permanent sign permit: one-time, per sign | 2026-09-09 |
Fees shown as a range or formula are set that way by the issuing agency — we do not average them into a single number.
About each permit
Commercial Building Permit
Issued by the Development Center within Development Services. The City's Business Licensing page states that only registered contractors can purchase permits for construction work in the City; its Contractor Registration page lists registration by trade, with the general 'Building Contractor' registration labelled Residential Only — see the Contractor Registration record below.
Certificate of Occupancy & Temporary Certificate of Occupancy
Issued by the Development Center. A TCO request requires all related permits for the project to be issued and all final or temporary-final inspections passed, with any holds on the building permit released first.
Sign Permit
All permanent signs must be submitted by a registered sign contractor (see the Contractor Registration record below). Signs proposed within a designated Design District may need additional review under the Planning Department's Certificate of Appropriateness program (405-297-1624).
