About each permit
County Certificate of Competency or Voluntary Registration of a State-Certified Contractor
The county's Contractor Licensing page states that, pursuant to Florida Statutes Chapter 489 and Collier County Ordinance 2006-46, any person or entity that engages in construction contracting, or advertises as a contractor, "must have a county contractor license/certificate of competency or be a state-certified contractor." The same page states that, under Senate Bill 1142 and Fla. Stat. §§ 489.113 and 489.117, a list of specialty contractor licenses is no longer required in Collier County as of July 1, 2025. The fee figures are as printed in § CC of the fee schedule adopted by Resolution No. 2025-231 (schedule header "BCC Approved version, October 28, 2025", effective January 1, 2026), whose § FF.B lets annual adjustments take effect on January 1 if approved. Per the Local Licenses page, an applicant for a county certificate of competency first applies for sponsorship and pays the $130.00 examination administrative fee, valid for 6 months and non-refundable; tests with Gainesville Independent Testing Services (GITS) or ProV and needs a score of 75% or greater; then files a Business Organization or Journeyman application through the GMD Public Portal. A second-entity qualification goes before the Contractor Licensing Board. Contact: 239-252-2431, contractorslicensing@collier.gov.
