The City's citywide 'Licenses & Permits' page lists an entry called 'Business License' that links to the Building Department's 'Permit & License Center Applications' page. That page lists specific activity licenses — Amusement, Auction/Auctioneer, Broker, Rooming House, Sales, and Street Vendors/Peddlers, plus contractor applications — and names no general license to operate a business, so no fee applies for one. The City's 'Business' landing page lists Bids & Contracts, Building & Development, Business Resources, Economic Development, Equal Opportunities and Tax Information. Certificate of Occupancy
Changing a building's use (for example converting commercial space into a different occupancy) requires a new Certificate of Occupancy. Must be requested from the inspector directly once all permitted work is inspected and approved, and before any tenant moves in. Demolition of an entire structure does not require either certificate.
