About each permit
Itinerant Vendor Food Service License (Health Department)
Covers 'food sellers that are able to move around rather than staying in a single location' — trucks, trailers, carts and pushcarts alike, per the Health Department's own definition. This is the health-authority half of New Haven's food-truck requirements; a separate Street Vendor license from the Building Department's Permit & License Center is also required (see that record) for the right to vend on city streets, on top of this food-safety license.
Veterinary Clinic — General City Permits Apply (New Haven)
NHV Health's Environmental Health Fees (as of July 1, 2026), the City Plan Department's Fiscal Year 2025-2026 Fee Schedule and the Fire Marshal's Office fee schedule list no veterinary-, animal-hospital-, kennel- or pet-specific line item, so no fee applies beyond the general building, zoning and sign requirements recorded above. The Connecticut veterinary practice framework, recorded on the Connecticut state page, licenses the individual practitioner.
Food Service Establishment License
New Haven runs its own City health department (NHV Health) rather than a regional health district, and is the genuine local food-permitting authority behind Connecticut's own delegated food-service licensing framework recorded at the state layer. Applications are submitted online through the CitySquared portal. A Temporary Food Service Establishment (an event in one location) is priced separately: $80.00 for a single day or $200.00 for 2-14 consecutive days.
Daycare and Child Care Facility Health Inspection
This is the Health Department's own inspection fee for a day care or child care facility, additional to and separate from the Connecticut Office of Early Childhood's state license (recorded at the state layer) and from the Fire Department's own Day-Care Center operational permit recorded separately below. This fee rose from $110.00 to $200.00 between the July 2025 and July 2026 versions of this same published schedule.
Salon, Tattoo, and Body Care Facility License
One combined license category covers tattoo parlors, piercing parlors, hair salons and barber shops, massage parlors, nail salons, and other personal-care services such as lashes, waxing, threading and facials, per the Health Department's own description — unlike Bridgeport's six separately-priced categories, New Haven licenses this group under one $150.00 fee and one City ordinance adopted in 2023. Applications and renewals are submitted online through CitySquared.
