About each permit
Fire Alarm System Permit
Banded on device count: $125 for 1 to 10 devices, $150 to 25, $175 to 50, $225 to 100, $300 to 200, $450 to 500, and above 500 devices $450 plus $75 for each additional 100 devices or fraction thereof in excess of 25. Plan review is a further 25 per cent of the permit fee. Count devices before quoting — the step from 100 to 101 devices adds $75, and from 200 to 201 another $150.
Automatic Sprinkler System Permit
$125 for 1 to 20 sprinklers, $200 to 100, $250 to 150, $300 to 200, and above that $300 plus $75 for each additional 100 sprinklers or fraction thereof. The underground installation is a separate $165 and a fire pump another $300, so a new build with all three runs past $600 before the 25 per cent plan review surcharge. Any other extinguishing system — a kitchen hood suppression system, for instance — is $150.
Fire Equipment Servicing Firm Registration
$50 a year to register a firm that sells or services hand fire extinguishers, Vent-a-Hood extinguisher systems or fire sprinklers within the city. It falls on the servicing company rather than the premises, but a restaurant should still care about it: your hood suppression contractor must hold it to work in Burleson, and asking to see it is quicker than discovering afterwards that a service visit was not lawful.
Fire Code Operational Permit
$50 covers any other permit required by the fire code, and the named ones sit either side of it: a storage tank installation or removal, underground or above ground, is $125 per tank; an LPG installation using portable containers over 125 gallons where no natural gas service exists is $125 per container; a tent permit $100; a public event permit $250; a carnival or circus $50; special locking systems $250; and a gate across a private street or a fire lane $50. Reinspection is $45. For an auto repair shop the tank line is the one that usually applies, charged per tank.
Daycare and Health Facility Licensing Inspection
$75 for the fire inspection a daycare or health facility needs for state licensing — the state will not license without it, so this sits on the critical path of opening rather than beside it. A foster home inspection is $35. Note that a childcare centre in Burleson also pays $300 a year for its food establishment permit if it prepares food, so the two are separate obligations to separate parts of the city.
