Certificate of Occupancy
MABCD's own Temporary Certificate of Occupancy application (Form #6A/6B) states no fee on either of its two pages, and MABCD's Licensing and Permit Fees (Table A) and Building Permit Fees (Table B) list no separate fee for a standard, first-issuance certificate of occupancy, so no additional fee is given here. Contact MABCD to confirm whether any charge applies beyond the building permit fee for the underlying project.
Building Permit (Commercial)
MABCD is a single department jointly operated by the City of Wichita and Sedgwick County — the same fee table and the same permit apply whether the project sits inside city limits or in the unincorporated county, and MABCD may temporarily discount fees by up to 20% under its own reserve-fund policy (City of Wichita Resolution R-95-560) if permit revenue runs well ahead of the department's three-to-four-month operating reserve.
MABCD Contractor License (Class A, B, C, D and individual trades)
This is the genuine local credential Kansas's own state layer predicts should exist: the state licenses no general contractor, electrician, plumber or HVAC trade itself, leaving that entirely to local government, and Wichita/Sedgwick County fill the gap jointly through MABCD rather than separately. A late biennial renewal costs the license fee plus 25% if paid in February of the renewal year, or plus 50% if paid after February. A current certificate of insurance for general liability, auto and workers' compensation must be on file before any permit or inspection will be scheduled. Mobile Home Installers are licensed by the State of Kansas and pay no MABCD renewal fee, but must still file a biennial application to keep their information on record.
