About each permit

Child Care Local Licensing Fee (Family Child Care Home)

A genuine, distinct local fee, easy to miss because it is charged by the City's own Environmental Health division rather than by any childcare-licensing agency: the City's own FAQ states, in its own words, 'The local fee is $108 (payable to City of Wichita).' The same FAQ answer still quotes an $87 state fee payable to KDHE, but that charge no longer exists — Kansas Statutes section 65-505, as amended by 2025 House Bill 2045, has provided since 1 July 2025 that 'there shall be no annual fee for a license to conduct a child care facility', and the state license itself has been issued by the Kansas Office of Early Childhood, not KDHE, since 1 July 2026. The $108 figure is confirmed specifically for Family Child Care Homes; Child Care Centers register through the same office (316-268-8351) after attending a separate Child Care Center Orientation, but no distinct centre-specific local fee figure could be confirmed from any page this research could retrieve, so none is asserted for that case. A person wanting to run a home-based day care is separately told to obtain a Home Occupation License from MABCD (316-660-1840) before starting — a real, cross-referenced prerequisite recorded here rather than treated as a duplicate fee. Complaints go to the same local licensing office at 316-268-8351; the state's citation and inspection records, formerly KDHE's, moved with the rest of licensing to the Kansas Office of Early Childhood.
