About each permit
PBC Fire Rescue Operational/Life-Safety Permit
PBC Fire Rescue's fire and life-safety inspection reach varies by municipality: PBCFR directly inspects unincorporated PBC plus a list of contract municipalities including Belle Glade, Jupiter, Lake Worth Beach, Lantana, Royal Palm Beach, Wellington and others; it dispatches only, without inspecting, for a second list including Delray Beach, Greenacres, North Palm Beach, Palm Beach Gardens, Riviera Beach and West Palm Beach; and it has no role at all in Boca Raton, Boynton Beach, Briny Breezes, Golf, Hypoluxo, Ocean Ridge or the Town of Palm Beach, each of which runs a fully independent fire department. Where PBCFR does inspect, restaurants and coffee shops need hood-suppression and LP-gas permits, fitness studios and other assembly occupancies need life-safety permits, childcare facilities need a life-safety inspection, and auto-repair shops need flammable-storage compliance. PBCFR's own operational-permit fee is set by an internal agency directive (Operational Procedure #VIII-7) rather than published on its public site; confirm the current fee directly with the Community Risk Reduction Division before budgeting for it.
