About each permit
Contractor Licensing Board — Certificate of Competency
This county board's licenses and competency cards are recognized, and effectively required, for work inside Tampa, Plant City and Temple Terrace as well as unincorporated Hillsborough County: the City of Temple Terrace's own contractor-registration page requires applicants to submit 'a copy of a valid Hillsborough County competency card' from both state-licensed and locally certified applicants, independently re-confirmed during this build, and the county's own Building Board of Adjustment, Appeals & Examiners seats members from the City of Tampa and the City of Temple Terrace. Each city still layers its own separate registration step on top of the county card rather than treating the county card alone as sufficient — confirmed specifically for Temple Terrace. Two categories of license exist: 'Local Specialty' trades with no Florida DBPR state equivalent (aluminum structure, demolition, drywall, garage door installation, glass and glazing, irrigation, plaster and stucco, windows and doors), and 'State Registered' trades that also carry a separate state DBPR credential. Local Specialty and State Registered applicants must pass two exams (trade fundamentals and Florida business law) with a 75% minimum score.
