About each permit
Fire Plan Review and Fire and Life Safety Inspections (Commercial Occupancies)
The fees here are as published in the county's FY26/27 Schedule of Fees and Charges for Services (Office of Management and Budget), each page marked "Effective 10/01/2026"; the schedule describes itself as a fee resolution, and the adopting resolution is not published online. Alachua County Fire Rescue's page states that the County Fire Marshal oversees Fire Prevention, and that the Fire Prevention Office's activities include "annual fire safety inspections for all public, private and charter schools, day care centers, assisted living facilities, nursing homes, Alachua County facilities, and medical facilities as required for the renewal of their State license. Fire and life safety inspections are also performed on commercial occupancies." The same page describes a Plans Inspection/Review program, "mandated by State Statute", that "provides for the review of all architectural drawings for new commercial construction in Alachua County", including fire alarm systems, fire sprinkler systems and pre-engineered suppression systems. The schedule charges the initial inspection at the standard fee for the building's size, makes the first re-inspection free and charges each additional re-inspection at twice the standard fee. A restaurant installing a commercial kitchen exhaust hood or a pre-engineered suppression system pays the plan review and inspection fees for those systems in addition to the Fire Marshal Release. Inspection fees are set by building size, not by construction value. The Fire Rescue page lists a Revenue and Collections Section that handles billing for fire inspections performed by the Life Safety Branch. Fire Rescue office: 352-384-3101; mailing address PO Box 5038, Gainesville, FL 32627-5038.
