Hazardous Materials Management Code Annual Facility Fee and Class C/D Storage License
ULDC Sec. 353.24 states: "This code shall be applicable to any person who transports, handles, or stores hazardous materials in the county." The Environmental Protection Department's page states that the code's purposes include to "Provide uniform standards for the proper storage, handling, and monitoring hazardous materials on a county-wide basis", that "There are over 1,200 regulated facilities in Alachua County", and that facilities are inspected on a rotating schedule. Sec. 353.31 assigns storage facilities to classes by use: Class A lists "Mechanical repair, restricted to minor repairs.", "Veterinarian offices or grooming business, no pesticide dipping." and "Animal clinics, animal hospitals, and grooming businesses with pesticide dipping."; Class B lists "Automobile and truck repairs, no fleet operations." The annual fees by class (AA $85.00, A $140.00, B $300.00, C $750.00, D $900.00, and $105.00 per tank) are as published in the county's FY26/27 Schedule of Fees and Charges for Services (Office of Management and Budget), each page marked "Effective 10/01/2026"; the schedule describes itself as a fee resolution, and the adopting resolution is not published online. Sec. 353.39 states that the fees are set by Board resolution and that a facility pays the fee and submits Form HM-100, the hazardous materials storage facility notification form, within 30 days of receiving notice from the department. Sec. 353.38 requires a hazardous materials storage license to construct, modify, install, replace or operate a Class C or D facility in the county, issued for no more than five years and not transferable. The department's page says to email EPD-Reception@alachuacounty.us for a copy of the notification form.
Veterinary Premises Permit
$250 once, and then never again — the premises permit has no expiry date and no renewal fee, which makes Florida unusually cheap for a clinic compared with states that charge annually. It stays valid for the life of the clinic provided ownership and location do not change; either change means a fresh permit. The recurring cost is inspection rather than renewal: $60 for the periodic inspection, which happens at least every two years, and $60 again for any reinspection arising from deficiencies. The fee is waived entirely for premises owned by a business holding a current 501(c)(3) determination. House-call practitioners with no establishment for receiving patients are exempt, as are practitioners serving only agricultural animals. Do not confuse this with the Limited Service Veterinary Medical Practice Permit, which is charged per biennium.
The other 3 local permits in the tables apply to every type of business in Alachua County, FL; what each one involves is set out on the Alachua County permits page. The 6 state-level registrations apply to every type of business across FL and are covered on the FL state page.
