About each permit
Fire Code Compliance Inspection and Fire System Permits
The Fire Department's Business Safety Inspection Checklist lists the basic life safety items examined in a typical business inspection: exits, emergency lighting, extinguishers, fire alarm systems (required annual functional test), fire sprinkler systems (required annual service), and, for commercial cooking, hood suppression systems, which must have been serviced in the last six months. An inspection fee is not published on the Fire Prevention Division's page or in the checklist. According to the City's Apartment, Commercial & Industrial permit page, construction plans are sent to the fire department, among other departments, for permit review.
