About each permit
Coin-Operated Machine Permit Fee (County Occupation Tax, per Machine)
A restaurant, store or other business in Webb County that keeps a coin-operated amusement machine pays a county permit fee on each machine to the Webb County Tax Assessor-Collector, 1110 Victoria St., Suite 107, Laredo, 956-523-4200. The Tax Office's Coin-Operated Machines page sets $15.00 per machine placed in operation from January 1 to March 31, $11.25 from April 1 to June 30, $7.50 from July 1 to September 30 and $3.75 from October 1 to December 31, and says the permit fee is paid on each machine based on the date it goes into operation. The page states "RENEWALS AND FEES DUE ANNUALLY ON NOV. 30. PENALTIES FOR LATE FILING." Occupations Code section 2153.451 lets a county impose an occupation tax on a coin-operated machine at no more than one-fourth of the state tax, and section 2153.401(b) sets the state tax at $60 per year, so $15.00 is the statutory maximum for the county.
