About each permit

Amusement Machine Permit (Taylor County Tax Assessor-Collector)

A business in Taylor County that exhibits coin- or card-operated music, skill or pleasure machines needs a county amusement machine permit for each machine from the Tax Assessor-Collector. The county's Amusement Machine Permits page states: "The annual fee for Amusement Machine Permits is $7.50, per machine." The page defines coin operated machines as every machine or device operated by or with coins, metal slugs, tokens, bills, credit/debit cards or checks, exempts machines designed exclusively for children 12 years and under, and states: "A business may use a vending company that supplies the machines, and the vending company may purchase the permits." Texas Occupations Code section 2153.451 lets a county impose an occupation tax on coin-operated machines at no more than one-fourth of the $60 yearly state tax set by section 2153.401, which is $15.00; the county's $7.50 is within that limit. The state tax is separate. Contact the Tax Assessor-Collector, 325-674-1230.
