About each permit

Business Tax Receipt

Priced by what you do, from a schedule of more than six hundred categories, so the range above is the schedule's rather than any one business's. Worked examples: a restaurant is $27 up to ten seats and $2 for each seat beyond that; a retail shop is $63 for the first $1,000 of merchandise and $6 for each additional $1,000; a barbershop is $20 for the first chair and $15 for each further chair; a garage runs $68 to $400 by headcount; a veterinary establishment is $99 and the vet's own receipt $116; a gym or health club is $99 each location. A separate receipt is needed for each location AND each classification at the same location, so a café with a retail counter may owe two. It expires 30 September whenever you bought it, but the tax halves if you start on or after 1 April. Late renewal costs ten per cent in October plus five per cent a month to a twenty-five per cent ceiling, with a further penalty of up to $250. A valid certificate of use has to exist first.

Food Truck Business Tax Receipt

$473 per vehicle to the city as a peddler-by-vehicle receipt, plus $60 to Miami-Dade County for a peddler receipt, plus the state's mobile food dispensing vehicle license — three governments before you serve anything. The city will not issue until you show a county health inspection certificate, a state Division of Hotels and Restaurants inspection certificate, proof of insurance, the vehicle identification number and the county peddler receipt. Where you can park is the harder constraint: no operating within five hundred feet of a food service, gasoline or other combustible energy establishment, and not at all in the T3 and T4-R transect zones. The property you park on must itself have an active certificate of use, and with no more than two trucks present you count as ancillary to it only if you are there no more than three times a week and never overnight. A gathering of three or more trucks needs a temporary event permit, capped at once a calendar month per location for at most three consecutive days, with no alcohol.
