About each permit
Kennel / Cattery / Wild Animal Facility Permit
A veterinary practice boarding animals beyond incidental overnight medical care, or a retail pet shop, needs this annual permit before operating: 'no person may maintain a kennel, cattery or wild animal facility within the County without an annual permit,' and the property must first carry the appropriate zoning before an application to the Chief of Animal Control is accepted. This is a Sacramento County Code requirement enforced by Sacramento County Animal Care; because Sacramento County Animal Care provides field animal-control service under contract to some, not all, of the county's seven incorporated cities, a business's own city may run an independent animal-control ordinance and shelter of its own for the same activity, so confirming which agency has jurisdiction over a specific address is part of the application process itself, done through Sacramento County Animal Care directly. The permit fee is set by Board of Supervisors resolution under §8.08.090 rather than printed as a dollar figure in the code, and is due within 30 days of establishing the facility, becoming delinquent 14 days after that due date.
