Which Wyoming city are you opening in?

• Cheyenne, WYThe City Clerk's current fee page lists no general business license; Cheyenne instead licenses twenty-eight enumerated categories under Code §5.04.030, and three of the ten industries covered here are among them: a restaurant or coffee shop pays $115.00 annually as a food service establishment, a garage, auto dealer or car lot pays $65.00, and a barber or beauty shop pays $65.00. Food is a two-step process because Laramie County is among the six local health departments the Wyoming Department of Agriculture lists — CMC §8.40.040(B) requires the applicant to apply first to the Cheyenne-Laramie County Health Department and for a state sales tax permit, then obtain the city license. A food truck is $75.00 per year per unit, or $50.00 for a fourteen-day period, with reduced rates of $25.00 and $10.00 for nonprofit, charitable and youth organisations. Contractor licensing is extensive, and the Wyoming Secretary of State refers general-contractor questions to the local jurisdiction: Class A is $600.00 initially and $200.00 to renew, Class B and Class R $400.00 and $100.00, Class C-1 $200.00 and $75.00, Classes C-2, C-3 and D $200.00 and $50.00, and Classes E, F and S $300.00 and $75.00, each on a $50.00 application fee, with insurance from $300,000 per occurrence for subcontractors to $1,000,000 for Class A and no bond required. Building permits run a valuation table from $23.50 with plan review at sixty-five percent of the permit fee and re-inspections at $250.00. Planning fees include a $825.00 conditional use permit, a $675.00 zoning variance, a $1,500.00 special use permit, a $1,800.00 new site plan and a $375.00 child care application. Signs need a building permit plus a $50.00 review fee. • Gillette, WYThe City Clerk's page lists the licenses and permits the Clerk issues and names no general business license, and Gillette's enumerated list is shorter than Cheyenne's or Casper's: Chapter 10 licenses itinerant vendors and door-to-door solicitors at $50.00, pawnbrokers at $100.00, sexually oriented businesses at $250.00 and mobile food vendors at $75.00, and permits circuses and amusement rides at $100.00 per day and special events at $25.00. Only two of the ten target industries are licensed — food trucks and contractors. Food is purely a state matter here because the Wyoming Department of Agriculture's list of the state's six local health departments does not include Campbell County, so a restaurant deals with the Department of Agriculture alone at $200.00 new and $100.00 annually. The building permit is priced by floor area rather than construction valuation, which is unusual: $30.00 up to 500 square feet, $60.00 to 1,000, $100.00 to 2,000, $150.00 to 5,000 and above that $150.00 plus four cents per square foot, with commercial plan review escalating steeply at $100.00 for the first review, $200.00 for the second, $1,125.00 for the third and $1,500.00 for each thereafter. A sign is a flat $30.00 building permit line. Contractor licensing is more demanding than in Cheyenne or Casper: Class A is $500.00, Class B $300.00, Class R and Class D $150.00 and Classes C and F $75.00, and, unlike Cheyenne and Casper, Gillette requires a $5,000 bond as well as insurance and a letter of good financial standing, with licensing required regardless of project size or whether a permit is needed at all. Planning fees are set by the adopted Zoning Ordinance's own fee table, including a $340.00 commercial site plan, a $595.00 zoning variance and a $1,000.00 zoning text amendment; the Planning Division's older 2014-column schedule agrees except that it still prints the text amendment at $340.00. The ordinance's text sets out no conditional-use tier: its use table either marks a listed use permitted in a district or leaves it out. Fire is handled by the Gillette/Wright/Campbell County Fire Protection Joint Powers Board rather than by a city department, and its own Fire Marshal page does not publish inspection or permit fees.15 published records
• Casper, WYUnder CMC §5.04.040, Casper's business licenses cover seven enumerated categories, none of which is one of the ten industries covered here, and the City's Business Licenses page lists no general business license. What reaches food and personal-care businesses is a different instrument: a health license under Chapter 8.04, issued by the City Clerk after Casper-Natrona County Health Department inspection, running the City's fiscal year from July 1 to June 30. A restaurant pays $100.00 plus $25.00 if it serves alcohol, a bar $100.00 plus $25.00 if it serves food, a grocery or food processor $75.00 with $25.00 added for each of a meat market, bakery or delicatessen, a childcare facility $50.00, a swimming pool $75.00 and a body art or permanent cosmetic establishment $25.00, with schools fee-exempt and a hardship provision allowing a $1.00 license. Food trucks are expressly excluded from that license by a June 2025 amendment and instead hold a county food license, plus a $25.00 per space per day Mobile Vendor Parking Permit if trading downtown. Contractor licensing is a city matter — the Wyoming Secretary of State's FAQ directs general contractors to the local jurisdiction where the work takes place: Class I is $300.00 new and $150.00 to renew, Classes IIA, IIB, III and IV $150.00 and $75.00, a mechanical or plumbing contractor $300.00 and $150.00, a master $75.00 and $37.50, a journeyman $25.00 and $15.00 and an apprentice $3.00, with insurance of $250,000 per person, $500,000 per incident and $250,000 property damage and no bond required. Alcohol is $1,500.00 annually for a retail, resort or restaurant license. The City's current fee schedule, dated February 2, 2026, is a scanned PDF published on casperwy.gov: it prices a building permit from $70.00 at the lowest valuations to $841.00 at $100,000.00, then $806.00 plus $5.60 per additional $1,000.00 above that, with a 65% commercial plan check or a flat $280.00 residential one, and it prices a conditional use permit, a variance and a zone change at $600.00, $600.00 and $750.00.
