The threshold moved on 1 October 2024 and a lot of published material has not caught up: the license is required where the cost of the undertaking is $100,000 or more, raised from $50,000, and the same figure applies to public and private work and to subcontractors. Two official documents still say $50,000 — the board's own rule 230-X-1-.09 and its 2022 subcontractor instructions — and the statute controls.
