About each permit

Salon/Barbershop-Specific Municipal License (not found)

No fee applies — the Business License Ordinance's own FAQ and summary pages and the Planning Department's fee schedules list no additional salon- or barbershop-specific municipal product beyond the general Business License and its Fire & Life Safety Inspection Fee, both recorded above. New Mexico's own Board of Barbers and Cosmetologists establishment license, recorded at the state layer, remains the real trade-specific credential for this industry.

Business License

Effective July 1, 2025, this Business License replaced the City's former 'Business Registration' — Council Bill O-24-60 repealed the old ordinance specifically to add teeth: the prior registration's only penalty was a one-time $10 late fee (still the figure shown on the Planning Department's own General Fee Schedule PDF, last updated 1/17/2025 — a snapshot of the outgoing regime rather than the current one), while the License carries a $10-per-calendar-day delinquency fee and a $100/day civil fine for operating without one. The fee itself started at $35 when the ordinance took effect, but the ordinance allows the City to raise it up to 5% a year; the City's own FAQ page states the first such increase takes effect July 1, 2026, bringing the fee to $36.75 — the figure recorded here, since that date has passed. A business operating more than one location needs a separate license and fee for each. Applicants must submit a current New Mexico Taxation and Revenue Department registration certificate showing the physical business address, and zoning approval is required before a license issues. A separate, identically-named Business License requirement applies to childcare facilities but with the fee itself waived (recorded separately below), and a separate Fire & Life Safety Inspection Fee (also recorded separately below) applies on top of this license fee for most commercial applicants.

Auto Repair-Specific Municipal License (not found)

No fee applies — the same sources that list no salon-specific product list none for auto repair. Albuquerque Fire Rescue's Chapter 83 operational-permit table (Table 8302.5-A) names no 'Repair Garage' or comparable auto-repair-specific line item, unlike some other cities' fire codes researched in this project; a shop's flammable/combustible-liquid handling or hot-work activity could still individually trigger the table's generic Flammable and Combustible Liquids ($100), Hot Work Operation ($100), or Liquid- or Gas-Fueled Vehicles ($60) categories if applicable, but no permit named for the auto-repair industry itself exists.

Business License — Childcare Facility Fee Exemption

A commercial childcare facility already licensed by the State of New Mexico (i.e., holding the ECECD Child Care License recorded at the state layer) is exempt from the City's Business License fee itself, per the City's own FAQ page — so no fee applies to the license for such a facility, though the facility must still hold the license and comply with its other terms (zoning approval, current NM tax registration, etc.). This exemption does not reach the companion Fire & Life Safety Inspection Fee: the FAQ page's exemption sentence names only 'the fee' (the license fee) and Albuquerque Fire Rescue's own Chapter 83, the ordinance that actually sets the inspection fee, contains no childcare or daycare exemption anywhere in its text — it addresses only non-profit organizations, expressly making them subject to the fee rather than exempting them. An exempt daycare therefore still owes the Fire & Life Safety Inspection Fee recorded separately above.
