About each permit

Itinerant Merchant and Solicitor Registration Certificate (Lake County Sheriff, unincorporated areas)

Lake County Code § 111.01 states that chapter 111 registers and regulates "the activities of itinerant merchants and solicitors within the unincorporated areas of Lake County." Under § 111.02 no person or entity may sell or take orders for goods, wares, merchandise or services without a registration certificate, applied for in person at the office of the Lake County Sheriff with identification, a photograph and fingerprinting; changes to the application must be reported within 24 hours. Under § 111.03 the Sheriff issues the certificate as a dated, signed photograph identification badge valid for no more than three months, and each applicant pays $100 to defray administration costs and $10 to replace a lost or stolen badge. Under § 111.06 a $500 surety or cash bond payable to the Lake County Board of Commissioners is filed with the Sheriff before a certificate issues; one bond may cover all employees of one employer. Door-to-door activity is limited to 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on weekdays and noon to 5:00 p.m. on Saturdays. Under § 111.07 the chapter exempts newspaper sellers, people selling farm or dairy products of their own raising, persons with established permanent places of business within the county limits, local nonprofit organisations and public safety fundraising. Violations carry a fine of $100 to $500 per offence.
