Weighing and Measuring Device Registration
The Agricultural Commissioner's Weights & Measures page says 'Any device used to weigh or measure products or services for direct sale must be an approved type and annually registered with the Sealer of Weights and Measures', including 'grocery and deli counter scales'. A shop, coffee shop or restaurant that sells by weight registers each commercial device; a business that sells nothing by weight or measure has no device to register. The county's Weights & Measures Permit Fees page says the annual registration fee 'shall be assessed the maximum fees set forth in Business and Professions Code section 12240' and lists 'A business location fee of one hundred twenty dollars ($120) per business location'. The amounts shown are the statutory figures in §12240 as amended by Stats. 2023, ch. 575; the statute carries the note 'Repealed as of January 1, 2029, pursuant to Section 12246.'
