About each permit

Fire Code Annual Operational Permit and Inspection (unincorporated area outside fire protection districts)

A business whose operations require a fire code operational permit under the County Fire Code (the 2025 California Fire Code as adopted by County Code §13-15(a)) pays Permit Sonoma Fire Prevention $256 for the annual inspection, which includes the first permit, $209 for each additional three permits and $209 for a reinspection, plus a 1.3% surcharge, per Permit Sonoma's FY 2026-27 fee schedule, adopted by Board of Supervisors Ordinance No. 6554 and in effect July 1, 2026 to June 30, 2027. Under County Code §13-15(b), the county fire warden/fire marshal administers the County Fire Code only 'within those portions of the unincorporated area of the county not in a local fire protection district'; inside a local fire protection district, administration and enforcement of the fire code is 'the responsibility of the local fire chief', so this Permit Sonoma fee applies only in unincorporated areas outside a local fire protection district.

Child-Care Fire Clearance and Pre-Inspection (unincorporated area outside fire protection districts)

A child care facility licensed by the state's Community Care Licensing Division goes through a fire clearance inspection. Where Permit Sonoma Fire Prevention is the fire authority, the fee is $636 for a Large Family Day Care or institutional inspection, and a pre-inspection costs $849 for 25 or fewer children or $1,696 for 26 or more, plus a 1.3% surcharge, per Permit Sonoma's FY 2026-27 fee schedule, adopted by Board of Supervisors Ordinance No.
