Business Certificate
A d/b/a filing, not an operating license — the City Clerk's form states that a business certificate 'does not imply compliance with the Zoning Ordinance. Nor is a business certificate a license or permit to conduct business in the City of Springfield.' The form sets a $50.00 filing fee and a $20.00 certified copy, and states that under Chapter 110, section 5, business certificates 'shall be in effect for four (4) years from the date of issuance and may be renewed each four (4) years thereafter.'
Certificate of Occupancy
Two official sources disagree on this fee — the current codified ordinance (eCode360) says $75 and the department's own 2012-dated fee-schedule PDF says $80 — and both are disclosed here rather than resolving the conflict by guessing. A separate recurring "Certificate of Inspection," priced at 150% of the state building code's Table 106 fee, applies to a building that continues to be occupied.
