About each permit

Food Protection Certificate

A certified supervisor must be on site at every food service establishment while it operates. Unlike almost every other credential on this platform, it never needs renewing — a genuine lifetime certificate, even though the restaurant's own operating permit still renews every year.

Barber Shop Permit

This is a DOHMH permit, not a DCWP one — barbering falls under public health regulation in New York City. A shop also offering other beauty services needs a separate New York State Appearance Enhancement Business license on top of this permit.

Group Child Care Center Permit

Inside New York City, DOHMH licenses center-based child care directly rather than the state Office of Children and Family Services that governs the rest of New York — a genuinely different regulator from what the state layer of this platform describes.

Food Service Establishment Permit

Governed by DOHMH, not any borough or county authority — NYC's five counties issue no separate food permits of their own.

Mobile Food Vending License and Permit

Selling food or drinks from a pushcart or truck in New York City requires both credentials at once — an individual's Mobile Food Vending License and the unit's own Mobile Food Vending Permit — now administered through NYC Health after DCWP's older mobile-food-vendors page was retired and began returning 404. Pushcarts are capped at five feet wide and ten feet long.
