About each permit

Commercial Building Permit (renovation/infill)

This document, read directly at this URL, is still stamped effective July 1, 2025. The City's Finance and Administration Committee reviewed a proposed fee-schedule increase for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2026 in a January 6, 2026 presentation (first reading to council January 12, 2026; second reading January 26, 2026), but no updated schedule document has replaced this one at its published address.

Certificate of Occupancy

Occupying a structure before the certificate issues draws a $250 penalty. This document, read directly at this URL, is still stamped effective July 1, 2025 — the City's Finance and Administration Committee reviewed a proposed fee-schedule increase for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2026 in a January 6, 2026 presentation, but no updated schedule document has replaced this one at its published address.

Sign Permit

Same currency caveat as the other Building Development Services fees — this document is dated effective July 1, 2025.

Family Home Day Care Inspection Permit

This fee is specifically named for a family/home-based day care. The City's Residential and Commercial Permit Fee Schedules each list exactly this one day-care-related line; neither schedule publishes a separate, differently-priced inspection fee for a standalone commercial child care center, which instead falls under the general Certificate of Occupancy and Commercial Building Permit fees listed for Springfield. This inspection is in addition to Missouri DESE/Office of Childhood licensing.
