About each permit

Contractor Licensing — State License Applies under Georgia Code § 43-41-17 (Columbus)

No fee, because under Georgia Code § 43-41-17 no municipality or county may require a state-licensed contractor to comply with any additional licensing requirement relative to the construction work the state license covers — Columbus's own business licensing materials reflect exactly that, asking only for a copy of the current state license rather than issuing a separate city credential. A state-licensed contractor still needs the standard occupation tax certificate every business needs, plus a $75-per-unit trade permit for each electrical, plumbing, mechanical or gas installation on a project.

Occupation Tax Certificate

Paying in full by the April 1 due date earns a 2% early-payment discount, and a business owing $40 or more may instead pay quarterly. A late payment draws a 10% penalty plus 1.5% monthly interest. A veterinary practice is one of the professions named as eligible for the flat $400-per-practitioner election.
