Home Occupation Permit (unincorporated York County)
Zoning Code §155.671(A) provides that, except as the subpart allows, a home occupation use "may not be initiated, established, or maintained without a valid home occupation permit", and §155.671(B) that the permit "shall be renewed annually subject to fee payment"; under §155.1011(B) renewal is due by the anniversary date of the initial approval. A large lot home occupation is on a lot of at least two acres and a small lot home occupation on a smaller lot. Table 155.674-1 allows barber shops and beauty salons that serve only one customer at a time, and child care with a maximum of six children, on both lot sizes, and allows animal grooming, boarding, training, breeding or medical treatment only as a large lot home occupation. The table marks as prohibited on both lot sizes automotive repair, on-site retail sales, restaurants or commercial food preparation, and dance or gymnastic studios. Under §155.672, day care for six or fewer children registered as a Family Child Care Home by the South Carolina Department of Social Services, and home-based food production under S.C. Code §44-1-143, follow the home occupation standards but need no permit when everyone engaged in the activity lives on the premises. The fee is $50 a year ("Home occupation permit (annual)"), per the York County Code §31.01(A) land development fee schedule (last amended by Ord. 1323, passed March 6, 2023); the consolidated fee schedule adopted with the FY 2027 budget ordinance (third reading June 1, 2026) shows the same figures.
Veterinary Facility — Standards Enforced Through the Veterinarian's License (South Carolina)
The Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners' fee schedule (S.C. Regulations 10-42) lists only veterinarian fees, veterinary technician fees and miscellaneous administrative charges, with no facility, premises, clinic or hospital line, and the governing chapter creates no premises permit, so this record carries no fee. But do not read that as the premises being unregulated. The board's rules set detailed facility standards: the premises kept clean, orderly and free of offensive odour, requirements for the examination area, standards for an in-house laboratory, positive pressure and oxygen availability in medical environments, rules for mobile facilities, and a posting requirement where two or more practices share a building. Those standards are enforced through the licensed veterinarian's own license rather than through a separately issued permit. Animal shelters are a different regime with its own rules and should not be confused with this. For reference, a veterinarian pays $175 to apply and $340 to renew every two years; a technician pays $50 and $80.
The other 3 local permits in the tables apply to every type of business in York County Sc, SC; what each one involves is set out on the York County Sc permits page. The 5 state-level registrations apply to every type of business across SC and are covered on the SC state page.
