How much does it actually cost to permit a food truck in Augusta Richmond County?

There is no single figure, and any site quoting one is rounding away the part that matters. Of the 8 records listed for a food truck in Augusta Richmond County, GA, 3 apply to every business of this type and 5 are conditional. Adding every fee on the page together would overstate what most operators pay, because it would include permits they never need.

2 of the 8 are charged as a range or a formula set by the issuing agency, and 3 have no fee published at all. The ones that vary:

Occupation Tax Certificate: A gross-receipts-based tax, from $113 for the smallest Class 1 businesses up to over $6,000 for the largest, plus a $110 administrative fee built into the base bracket — or a flat $400 a year per licensed practitioner for veterinarians, physicians, lawyers and similarly licensed professionals who elect that option instead. An out-of-county business already licensed elsewhere in Georgia pays only a $6 administrative fee.

Food Service Permit: $240–$1,050 a year, set by the county board of health — no state fee, floor or ceiling

Is anything about these requirements changing?

A veterinary practice, in particular, is one of the named professions eligible for the flat $400-per-practitioner election, avoiding the gross-receipts calculation entirely. Confirm the exact current-year bracket rates directly with the Licensing Division, since the only complete published rate table located is dated October 2016. Failing to report an address change draws a separate $75 fine.

$110 all in, and the price is the same whether you file online, on paper online or by post — the $10 service charge now applies to every channel, so older guidance saying it is a mail-only surcharge is out of date. A corporation costs exactly the same $110, and so does a nonprofit. Expediting is additive and steep: $120 for two days, $275 for same day, $1,200 for one hour.

The same $110 as an LLC, with no share-based component — Georgia does not price incorporation by authorised capital. There is one extra step an LLC does not have: a Georgia corporation must publish a notice of intent to incorporate in the county's legal organ, and the Secretary of State expects verification of publication with the filing. No amount is recorded for that publication because no primary source states one; the newspaper sets it.

Georgia calls it a registration rather than a report, and the window is narrow: 1 January to 1 April, with a $25 penalty the moment you miss it and administrative dissolution if you keep missing it. An LLC may be reinstated within five years, at $260. You may pay for one, two or three consecutive years in advance, though the multi-year totals are not published anywhere the portal will show without logging in, so only the single-year figure is recorded here. One conflict worth knowing: the Secretary of State's own entity-registration page says a nonprofit pays $50, while its fee schedule and its annual registration table both say $40. The two schedules agree with each other, so $40 is used.

No fee is shown because the state charges none — Georgia issues no general business licence at all, and its guidance says licences come from the county or the city where the primary place of business sits. Two details are routinely got wrong. The local levy is permissive: the statute authorises but does not require a county or municipality to impose an occupation tax, so a minority of Georgia jurisdictions charge nothing, and it is wrong to say a local licence is always needed. And you register with one government, not two — the city if you are inside city limits, the county if you are not. Federal work authorisation evidence must be produced before a local licence is issued or renewed.

No fee for the original certificate — the rule says so outright — and only a dollar to reissue one that has been suspended or revoked. Register through the Georgia Tax Center and the number arrives by email within about fifteen minutes. Three things in the rule catch people out: a separate application is required for each place of business in the state, the certificate is not transferable to another location, and it must be displayed conspicuously on the premises. Anyone meeting the statutory definition of a dealer must register even if every sale is online, wholesale or exempt.

Georgia sets the sanitation standard, the permit form, the inspection regime and the manager certification rule, and then sets no fee at all — the state's food service rule chapter contains no dollar figure anywhere. Every dollar is the county board of health's, with no statutory cap or floor, and the counties do not even band the same way: Fulton by risk type alone at $450, $600 or $750; Gwinnett, Newton and Rockdale by risk type crossed with seating from $260 to $1,050; DeKalb by cooking category crossed with risk points and floor area from $250 to $800. The range recorded here spans the verified county schedules rather than pretending to a single number. Plan review is required statewide but priced locally, and applications must be filed at least ten business days before opening. One jurisdictional trap: restaurants are not regulated by the Department of Agriculture, which covers food sales rather than food service.

No state fee, because Georgia issues no certificate — it requires one from an accredited programme and links straight out to the accreditation directory. At least one employee with supervisory and management authority must hold it, designated to a single establishment. Three exemptions sit in the rule: a mobile unit that does not process food, an establishment serving only food that needs no temperature control and limited preparation, and a temporary establishment. A sixty-day grace period runs from a new permit, a change of ownership or the loss of your certified manager, and the original certificate must be posted in public view. Georgia has no food handler card for ordinary staff — the words do not appear in the rules at all; the model instead is that the person in charge demonstrates knowledge to the inspector.
