About each permit
Encroachment Permit (City Roads and City-Maintained Easements)
The City's Encroachment Permit page states that work within City of North Charleston roads, and within easements maintained by the City (typically drainage easements), requires an encroachment permit issued by the City, while work within SCDOT roads requires an SCDOT encroachment permit instead. Applications go to the Public Works Department at 5800 Casper Padgett Way. The City's application form states that the permit expires 180 days from the date issued and that the permittee must give five working days' notice before starting work.
