Precious Metals Dealer License

A store that buys precious metals in Cumberland County, such as a jewelry buyer or gold-buying counter, needs an annual Precious Metals Dealer License from the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office. The Sheriff's Firearms & Licensing page states: 'Act 1984-17 - A dealer in precious metals shall obtain a license from the sheriff of each and every county in which the dealer purchases precious metals.' The fee is $50 per year: the Sheriff's letter dated 2/10/2026 asks for a completed application, a '$50 check made to the Cumberland County Sheriffs Office' and a copy of the applicant's driver's license, delivered in person or mailed to One Courthouse Square, Room 303, Carlisle, and the county's Annual Precious Metals Dealer Application reads 'Fee $50: Cash / check'. Act 17 §2(c) caps the fee at $50 per year, and 37 Pa. Code §501.5 states 'The annual license fee is $50', payable to the county treasurer; the amount is the same in every source, and the county's letter names the Sheriff's Office as payee. The license runs one year and a new application is submitted each year. The county's Weights & Measures page states that dealers 'MUST Register with Weights & Measures and the Sheriff Office', so a dealer's scale also needs the county device registration.
