WCC 30.223(1) makes it unlawful for any county liquor licensee to employ any person 'in the selling, serving or other disposition of intoxicating liquor' unless that person holds a current valid work permit; holders of package beer and/or liquor licenses are exempt from that subsection, so a package-only retailer's staff need no work permit under it. A restaurant, coffee shop or caterer licensed by the county to serve liquor must therefore make sure each serving employee holds one. The Washoe County Sheriff's Office issues the permit by appointment; its Work Permits page states that fingerprints are taken at application and renewal for state-wide and national records checks, that a photograph is taken for the card, and that 'Liquor work permits are issued for a period of five years.' As published on the Sheriff's Office service charge schedule, a work permit (all types per Washoe County Code) costs $74.00 new or renewal, including the $39.00 state fingerprinting fee, and a replacement card costs $15.00; the page states no adoption date.
