About each permit
Food Establishment Permit, Medium Priority
The Medium Priority Food Establishment Permit is $460 a year in the Current column of Schedule I of Chapter 40, the county's Food Safety and Environmental Health code. Schedule I states that 'The schedule below reflects current fees,' and its history cites Ord. 5008, Ord. 5393 and Ord. 5901, effective 12/16/24. The county's Fees at a Glance page states the same $460 figure. Chapter 40 states that the Health Officer determines the priority of each establishment, and it requires medium priority establishments to be inspected two to three times a year. Renewal requires the prior year's Business Personal Property Tax receipt under section 4031.1. The 2021 and 2023 columns of Schedule I are not used.

Schedule I states that 'The schedule below reflects current fees,' and its history cites Ord. 5008, Ord. 5393 and Ord. 5901, effective 12/16/24. The county's Fees at a Glance page states the same $775 figure. Chapter 40 states that the Health Officer determines the priority of each establishment, and it requires high priority establishments to be inspected three to four times a year. Renewal requires the prior year's Business Personal Property Tax receipt under section 4031.1. The 2021 and 2023 columns of Schedule I are not used.
Plan Review and Pre-Opening Fee, Food Establishment
The Plan Review Fee in the Current column of Schedule I of Chapter 40 is $310, a one-time charge. The county's Fees at a Glance page lists the Plan Review/Pre-Opening Application at the same $310. The pre-opening application page states that the cost of the food permit is set by the priority type under Schedule 1 of Chapter 40. The $315 figure on that page matches the 2021 column of Schedule I, and the $310 figure is the current one. The plan review fee is separate from the annual permit fee recorded above.
Food Handler Permit
Chapter 40 section 4028 requires that no person prepare, handle or dispense food at a food establishment unless that person has applied for and obtained a food handler permit within fifteen days of starting employment or the operation of an establishment, from the county's online vendor or another vendor the Director approves. Section 4028.1 governs the fee, required training and duration by the standards of the issuing authority. The county's Food Handler Permits page states that the online service costs $24.95 and must be paid by credit or debit card, that a classroom option costs $22, and that on-site training for a minimum of ten people costs $22 per person. The page also states that a food establishment in certain incorporated cities must contact that city's health department directly for its food handler permit. The page carries no date, so the amounts are stated as the page shows them.
Temporary Food Permit Late Fee
Schedule I of Chapter 40 sets a Temporary Food Permit Late Fee of $30 for an application submitted less than 48 hours before the event. The same $30 figure appears in the Late Filing Fee line of the county's Fees at a Glance page, which states the late charge for a temporary food establishment permit is applied when the application is not filed within 48 hours before the event date. The fee is added to the $55 temporary food establishment permit recorded separately. It is charged once per late application.
Seasonal Food Permit (Operating Six Months or Less)
The Seasonal Permit is $105 in every column of Schedule I of Chapter 40, and the county's Fees at a Glance page describes it as the Seasonal Permit for an operation of six months or less. The same $105 figure is stated on that page. The permit is labelled for an operation of six months or less.
Food Establishment Permit, Low Priority
The Low Priority Food Establishment permit is $255 a year in the Current column of Schedule I of Chapter 40, the county's Food Safety and Environmental Health code. Schedule I states that 'The schedule below reflects current fees,' and its history cites Ord. 5008, Ord. 5393 and Ord. 5901, effective 12/16/24. The county's Fees at a Glance page states the same $255 figure. Chapter 40 gives the Health Officer the duty to determine whether each food establishment is high, medium or low priority. Renewal requires the prior year's Business Personal Property Tax receipt under section 4031.1. The 2021 and 2023 columns of Schedule I are not used.
Mobile Unit and Push Cart Food Permit
The Mobile Unit/Push Cart permit is $205 a year in the Current column of Schedule I of Chapter 40, and the county's Fees at a Glance page lists the same $205 figure. The Environmental Health page states that the office issues food permits and inspects mobile food establishments in the unincorporated area of the county and in the incorporated cities its scope statement lists. The schedule's history cites Ord. 5901, effective 12/16/24. A mobile food unit is a separate permit from the temporary food and seasonal permits, which are recorded as their own records.
Temporary Food Establishment Permit (14 Days or Less)
The Temporary Food Establishment Permit is $55 per permit in every column of Schedule I of Chapter 40, and the county's Environmental Health page states the same $55 for an event of 14 days or less. The Fees at a Glance page lists the same figure. A temporary food permit covers one event, and a permit application submitted less than 48 hours before the event is subject to the late fee recorded separately. A Non-Profit Temporary Food Permit is a different permit in Schedule I and is not recorded on this page.
Catering Operation Permit
The Catering Operation permit is $385 a year in the Current column of Schedule I of Chapter 40, and the county's Fees at a Glance page lists the same $385 figure. The Environmental Health page states that the office issues food permits and inspects food establishments in the unincorporated area of the county and in the incorporated cities its scope statement lists. The 2021 and 2023 columns of Schedule I, which show $395 and $400, are not used.
Re-inspection Fee, Food Establishment
The Re-inspection Fee in the Current column of Schedule I of Chapter 40 is $105 per re-inspection, and the county's Fees at a Glance page states '$105 (per re-inspection).' Chapter 40 provides that fees apply to all follow-up inspections, and the Fees at a Glance page lists the same $105 per re-inspection. The 2021 and 2023 columns of Schedule I, which show $105 and $110, are not used for the current figure.
Food Permit Late Filing Fee
The Food Permit Late Filing Fee is $55 in the Current column of Schedule I of Chapter 40, and the county's Fees at a Glance page lists the Late Filing Fee for a food establishment permit at $55. The fee is a separate charge from the annual permit fee for the priority tier that applies. The same $55 figure appears in every column of Schedule I.
Food Service Permit Coverage, County Scope
Chapter 40 section 4001 applies the county's food code to the unincorporated area of the county and allows incorporated cities to contract with the county to apply and enforce it. The Environmental Health page states that the office issues food permits and inspects restaurants, grocery stores, schools, mobile food and temporary food establishments in the unincorporated area of the county and in the incorporated cities that the page lists. The scope statement sets no fee; each permit in this list carries its own fee, recorded in the records above.
