About each permit
Sales Tax License
No fee, and the Treasury answers the question in those words on its own FAQ. Unusually, the license is nonetheless dated: it is issued yearly and valid for the calendar year printed on it. One form, the 518, covers sales tax, use tax, withholding, corporate income tax and unemployment insurance together; registering online is authenticated within about fifteen minutes while the paper route takes four to six weeks. Two exclusions worth knowing: wholesalers are not issued sales tax licenses at all, using exemption certificates instead, and contractors do not need one because they are treated as the final consumer of materials affixed to real property.
