About each permit

Building Permit, Unincorporated Mohave County (new construction, remodel or change of use)

Required for new construction, remodelling or a change of use on a building in the unincorporated portions of the county. Ordinance 2021-03 states that it 'shall apply to the unincorporated areas of Mohave County per Resolution 2007-249, adopted May 7, 2007' (Sec. 1.B), so a building inside Kingman, Bullhead City, Lake Havasu City or the Town of Colorado City is outside the ordinance's scope. The ordinance sets its fees by reference to 'the current applicable Fee Ordinance' (Sec. 6.A) and to the same for its automation fee (Sec. 6.C.6). The county's building fee schedule page, dated only 'Rev 11/01/22', is the county's published schedule, and this record carries no dollar figure from it. Confirm the current fee with the Development Services Building Division at (928) 757-0903.

Septic (Onsite Wastewater) System Authorization, where there is no public sewer

Required for an on-site septic system where a building has no public sewer. The county's septic and well permitting page states: 'The authority for the environmental programs is delegated to Development Services by ADEQ,' and its FAQ says: 'If your home does not have access to public sewer, a septic system will provide a way to dispose of your wastewater right on your property.' The page does not address parcels inside an incorporated city, so the coverage of this requirement within Kingman, Bullhead City, Lake Havasu City or the Town of Colorado City is not stated in the county's published materials. The page is undated and carries no adoption or effective date, so this record carries no dollar figure. Contact Development Services at (928) 757-0903 or EQpermits@mohave.gov for the current amount.

Home Occupation Zoning Permit (salon, where connected to sewer)

Applies to a salon run from a residence in the unincorporated portions of the county. The Zoning Ordinance's home occupation section requires 'A Zoning Permit and appropriate fees' (Sec. 37.L 3.b), and its prohibited list in Sec. 37.L 4.g names 'Beauty Salon or Barber Shops, which are not connected to sewer.' The prohibition therefore covers only a salon without a sewer connection. The county's fee page states $140.00 for the initial permit ($100.00 fee plus $40.00 automation) and $75.00 for renewal ($50.00 plus $25.00 automation). The fee page carries no adoption date, and the Zoning Ordinance states at Sec. 7 that zoning fees 'will be adopted by the Board of Supervisors via separate resolution/ordinance, and fees may change with each budget adopted by the Board.' A salon inside Kingman, Bullhead City, Lake Havasu City or the Town of Colorado City is outside the unincorporated scope of this ordinance.
