About each permit

Articles of Incorporation

The $250 figure is actually two separate charges bundled together on the form: a $150 filing fee plus a $100 corporate tax.

Biennial Report

This is a genuinely biennial cycle, not an annual one — an entity formed in an even-numbered year reports every even year, an odd-year entity every odd year, always due January 2nd. Continued non-filing for roughly six months risks involuntary dissolution.

Business License

Genuinely required of every person or entity doing business in Alaska, one license per doing-business-as name — unlike most other states, this is a real, universal requirement rather than an absent category. Fees are non-refundable once the license is issued; a tobacco or other regulated endorsement adds $100 on top.

Articles of Organization (LLC)

Two hundred and fifty dollars — the identical fee Alaska charges to incorporate.

General Contractor Registration

A $25,000 surety bond is required alongside the registration fee, well above the $10,000 bond a specialty or mechanical contractor posts, or the $5,000 a handyman posts. Minimum liability insurance runs $20,000 property, $50,000 for a single injury and $100,000 for a multi-person injury, with workers' compensation required once the business has employees or is structured as a corporation or LLC.

Auto Repair Shop License — Alaska professional licensing catalogue position

The business licensing division's A-to-Z professional licensing catalogue, covering everything from acupuncturists to veterinary examiners, contains no entry for auto repair, mechanics or collision work, so the state-level item for a repair shop is the general Alaska business license that every business holds. A Division of Motor Vehicles dealer license is triggered by buying or selling five or more vehicles a year, so it does not apply to a shop that only repairs vehicles.

Shop Owner License

This is the shop-level license, separate from the $330 an individual hairdresser, barber, esthetician or manicurist pays for their own personal license. A shop must also separately hold the general Business License and certify sanitary compliance with the environmental conservation department; a shop doing tattooing, piercing or permanent cosmetics needs a further sanitary standards certificate on top.

Veterinary Facility Permit — Alaska Board of Veterinary Examiners position

The Alaska Board of Veterinary Examiners' applications and forms page lists the license and permit types the board issues — examination and credentials licenses, temporary licenses and permits, veterinary technician licensing, a courtesy license for special events, and a student permit — and that list names no facility, premises, hospital or clinic category. No state facility fee is shown here for that reason; a practice still needs licensed veterinarians, the Alaska business license and whatever its municipality requires.
