About each permit
Kennel, Pet Shop, Shelter Application (New, Remodel or Conversion)
The county's Application for Kennel, Pet Shop, Shelter, linked from the Environmental Health page, covers new, remodelled and converted kennels, pet shops and shelters. Among the documents it requires are 'Written local Zoning approval and application for local Licensing', a labelled floor plan with all equipment and animal areas, a separate isolation room with separate ventilation for sick or confined animals, and a 'Certification of Veterinary Supervision of the Disease Control Program and Health Care Program'. The form prints no fee, and the county's plan review fee memo effective January 1, 2021 lists no kennel or pet shop fee, so this record carries no dollar figure. A pet shop that keeps animals for sale is covered; a veterinary practice is covered only where it runs a kennel or boards animals. The New Jersey Department of Health's Directory of Local Health Departments, dated 10/05/2026, lists the Burlington County Health Department as the local health department for all 40 municipalities in the county.
Septic System and Potable Well Permits (Plan Review and Inspection)
The county's Septic and Well Application Fees memo states that 'The above charges became effective on January 1, 2021' (marked 'Revised 1/21'), and the county's current Environmental Health page links it as 'Septic and Well Fees (PDF)'. The memo states that applications received without the required fee are returned without action and that checks are payable to the County of Burlington. The county resolution adopting the memo is not published on the county site. The county's application to construct or alter an individual subsurface sewage disposal system (form BCHD90/1) lists new construction, alteration/expansion or change in use, alteration of a malfunctioning system, deviation from standards and repairs; separate county forms cover septic component repairs and wells. Any business on a private septic system or private well that builds, expands or changes the use of its premises goes through this review; a business on public sewer and public water needs neither permit. The New Jersey Department of Health's Directory of Local Health Departments, dated 10/05/2026, lists the Burlington County Health Department as the local health department for all 40 municipalities in the county.

Step 6 of the packet states: 'The applicant must go to the township to apply for a food handlers permit & certificate of occupancy (if applicable)'. The packet requires a Food Protection Manager's Certificate for risk level 3 establishments, and for risk level 2 establishments in Beverly, Chesterfield, Cinnaminson, Evesham, Lumberton, Maple Shade, Moorestown, Palmyra, Pemberton Borough, Southampton and Westampton. Its vending notes state that an inspection is conducted before operating or arranged during an event, that the 'Application approval expires December 31st of current calendar year', that the placard is posted while vending, and that 'All municipal approvals shall be obtained prior to operating / vending'. The form states that vendors with a current year's inspection report from a South Jersey Mobile Alliance member (Atlantic City, Atlantic County, Camden County, Cumberland County, Gloucester County, Salem County and the City of Vineland) may submit that approval with a Mobile Retail Food Amendment Form in place of the application; the amendment form prints no fee.
