About each permit

Family Child Care — County Regulation and Inspection

This applies to in-home family child care only. The county's Providing Child Care page states: "The county regulates and inspects in-home family child cares within Dakota County." It continues: "The Minnesota Department of Children, Youth, and Families issues in-home family child care operating licenses. They approve and publish licensing actions and fines and oversee child care centers located throughout the state." A provider who wants to become licensed contacts the county's family child care licensing team (952-891-7400, childcare@co.dakota.mn.us); the county regulates and inspects, while the operating license itself is issued by the state. A child care center is overseen by the state, as the county page says, and is covered by the state child care record rather than this one.
