Salon/Barbershop Registration — State DORA Applies (Aurora)
The City of Aurora's Quick Reference Guide for Aurora Businesses lists 'Barbershop or Cosmetology Shop Registration' as required for any business engaged in barbering, hairstyling, nail technician, esthetician or cosmetology services, and directs applicants to the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (303.894.7800). The guide states no separate fee and no separate city process for this registration on top of the general Aurora business license.
Business/Sales/Use Tax License
Unlike Colorado Springs, Aurora requires this general license of any business conducting activity in the city. The City's Quick Reference Guide for Aurora Businesses states that any person, including a nonprofit, conducting business activities within the city must hold the license regardless of where the business is physically located; a separate license is required for each Aurora location, a post office or private mailbox may not serve as the business location, and the license is non-transferable, so a change of legal entity requires a new application. Renewal is biennial and online, and all city tax accounts tied to the license must be in good standing to renew.
